New Harvest Festival – Vailankanni Ward

Celebration of the Nativity of Mother Mary and New Corn Festival

The Nativity of Mother Mary, along with the traditional New Corn Festival, was celebrated with great devotion and spiritual fervour on 14th September 2025 at the residence of Mr. William Colaso.
The celebration began with a warm welcome extended by Mrs. Asha Veera, setting a joyful and reverent tone for the evening. A meaningful prayer service was led by Mrs. Gracy Dsouza, secretary of the ward, followed by the offering of flowers to Infant Mary, symbolizing love and devotion.
Miss Veena Vas shared insights on the significance of the New Corn Festival, highlighting its roots in gratitude and community. The ward gurkar, Mr. William Colaso, then blessed the traditional new corn drink, which was shared among all the ward members. We had it together as a gesture symbolizing unity and togetherness.
The celebration continued with Mrs. Treeza Sequeira extending birthday wishes to all those born in September. A special event was conducted by Mrs. Jenifer Pereira, honouring teachers and achievers within the ward, in recognition of their valuable contributions.
Approximately 50 members from 22 families participated in the celebration, creating a warm and vibrant community gathering. Mr. Vincent Dsouza delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, appreciating everyone’s presence and contribution. The programme was smoothly compered by Mrs. Mishal Crasta.
The joyous evening concluded with a delicious meal lovingly prepared by ward members, bringing the celebration to a close with fellowship and shared joy.
