The New Corn festival was celebrated at Dev Matha Ward on September 13, 2026 at the residence of Mr Peter Shanthi Menezes. The event began at 6.00 p.m. and everyone was welcomed by our Ward Guarkar, Mrs, Irene Monteiro. A prayer service was led by Louiza Monteiro and the ward members, followed by floral offering to Infant Mary.
In the absence of Parish Priest, the New Corn was blessed and mixed with milk by Rev. Fr Ivan Corderio, along with the ward gurkar and representatives and was shared among the ward members as a symbol of unity and togetherness.
A permanent statue of Infant Mary was given to the ward by the families of Mr. Praveen Sequeira and Mr. Alban Fernandes. This gesture was greatly appreciated by Mr. Dolphy Dsouza. A beautiful dance was performed by Ayona Dsouza and group. Fun games were conducted by Mrs. Jeen Maria Noronha, and prizes were awarded to the winners. Mrs. Juliana Lobo greeted the birthday celebrants. The teachers of the ward were felicitated by Mrs. Irene Monteiro for their selfless service. Ms Divina Dsouza and Ms. Ayona Dsouza were honoured for securing distinction in the 2025-26 SSLC board examination. Ward Representative Mr Joseph Dsouza thanked all members for the success of the programme. The home-cooked delicious food was blessed and served everyone on fresh banana leaves, which bring people together and promotes equality and community feeling.
Rev. Fr. Ivan Corderio addressed the gathering. The programme was anchored by Ms. Ayona Dsouza. All the ward members actively participated sharing their joy and unity.
